Quick little sketch…
Here’s my next horror portfolio piece! A monster plague doctor practicing alchemy in his lab.
This is the group of stories that will never get old. They have a special feeling from them that makes them unable to enter the other groups. I feel like these will always be appreciated and should be the representatives of anime and manga. These stories are also the hardest to describe so I won’t be typing any descriptions for them. Enjoy.
Fullmetal Alchemist: (read manga, or watch “Brotherhood” anime) [finished]
Cowboy Bebop: (anime only) [finished]
Berserk: (read manga only. has movie adaptions) [ongoing]
Baccano!: (anime only) [finished]
Buddha: (no anime adaption, manga only) By the creator of manga, Osamu Tezuka, comes a story about the life of Buddha. This story is probably a bunch of short stories about the Buddha strung together into a linear storyline. It is a lot more interesting than it sounds. [finished]
Paranoia Agent: (anime only) “Fuck. No. Stop. Shit. NoNoNoNoNo. Fuck no. Stop. ShitShitShit. Why. Noooooooooo.” My reaction to watching Paranoia Agent. I hate this series, but let me explain to you why it is still on the list. I hate everything that happens in the show. I love the characters, the story, but not anything that actually happens. This is the kind of story that makes me cringe because it is just one bad thing after another. However, I do think people should watch it; it’s a good show. This show is basically about everything that can and will go wrong with your life turned up to eleven. Should watch 2 times to fully understand it. [finished]
Samurai 7: (anime only) Based on the Japanese film “7 Samurai” is a story that has a similar plot but differentiates in many ways. A village continuously has to give their harvest to used-to-be-soldier bandits who transformed themselves into mechas. To solve their problem, a group goes out to the big city to find samurai to help protect them. However, the bandits are not the only problem. Now the true heir to the emperor comes to power, and is mad as hell. [finished]
Hellsing: (read manga, or watch “Ultimate” anime only) A violent action manga about vampires and the creation of artificial vampires. The Hellsing organization wants to help the world be rid of vampires, using the strongest vampire, Alucard, as their weapon of choice. As the organization is from protestant England, they face many difficulties from the Catholic Church, who, although have the same goal, deeply hate the Hellsing organization. Then the Nazis come in… [finished]
Durarara: (anime only) The spiritual successor to Baccano! This story is about kids who haven’t seen each other in a few years because they went to different schools, but they were reunited when one of the friends decided to go to the other’s school. However, everybody has their own secret that they’ve gathered in the past few years that they would like to keep hidden. [finished]
Samurai Chomploo: (anime only) The spiritual successor to Cowboy Bebop. What was jazz to Cowboy Bebop is hip-hop to Samurai Chomploo. Fuu wants to go on a journey to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers. After a strange turn of events, she gets the bodyguards Jin and Mugen to protect her. However, they both want to kill each other. [finished]
Death Note: (read manga and watch anime) Light Yagami, an honors student and son to a police chief, one day finds a death note. Anyone’s name written in it will die. Light then realizes he could use this for the greater good and kill criminals, and is then referred to by the name Kira. L, the greatest detective in the world, is trying to stop Kira, and narrows his investigation onto Light Yagami. The two then fight to the wits until the other lets his guard down. [finished]
Uzumaki/Tomie/Gyo/Enigma of Amigara Fault/Souichi’s Diary: (no anime adaption, manga only. some have live movie adaptions) Junji Ito is the best at surreal and psychological horror. Uzumaki is about a town cursed by the shape and idea of ‘spirals.” Tomie is about a species called Tomie who drive men into insanity by their beauty. Gyo is about machines that infect living things to produce gas, and uses the gas to power the machines. Enigma of Amigara Fault is about holes in a mountain that are shaped as individual people and calls those people to their holes. Souchi’s Diary is about a boy who likes to curse things. etc. etc. read all of his works. [finished]
Tower of God: (no anime adaption, manga only) Although it is not a manga but a manhwa, this one is still very good. Anyone who reaches the top of the tower will have their dreams come true. However, everyone will fight to move onto the next floor. And when irregulars enter the tower, chaos and calamity come with them. The story (at first) follows Baam, who is trying to find his friend that already entered the tower. However, he is physically weak and must face many hardships, but he gets friends along the way to help him. [ongoing]
Bakuman: (read manga, then watch anime) A simple manga by the creators of Death Note. It is a strange love story. A manga artist and voice actress have liked each other ever since they were young. However, they promised they wouldn’t meet until their dreams come true. Mashiro (the artist) and his partner Takagi (the writer) both work hard to make a manga that will get an anime adaption so that Azuki (the lover) could voice act in it. [finished]
These are stories that I would highly recommend seeing or reading. Enjoy.
Dorohedoro: (no anime adaption, manga only) There are 3 worlds: Hole, the Magic World, and Hell. Hole has become a hotbed for amateur magic users to test their magic on live humans. However, there is Kaiman and Nikaido to help stop the problem. Kaiman is a man with a lizard head and amnesia, and Nikaido is the (badass) owner of her very own small restaurant, specializing in pot stickers. While they have their problem in Hole, in the magic realm, En, a powerful politician who specializes in mushroom magic, and his manor are scrambling to stop the anti-magic menace, the Cross-Eyes. This comic has amazing, ‘gritty’ art as well as well placed black humor. A must read in my opinion. [ongoing]
One Punch Man: (no anime adaption, manga only) This one kills me. In a world of superheroes, there is one stronger than any other, and he can defeat anyone with one punch. However, no one ever really appreciates him or they think he is faking it or cheating. The art is dynamic and clean, and the humor spot on. [ongoing]
I Am a Hero: (no anime adaption, manga only) In modern Japan, Hideo is a manga artist trying to find his way into the world. But then the zombie apocalypse hits. Generally, normal citizens are not allowed to have guns in Japan. Hideo owns a gun (for sport). Now he has to survive, hiding from the zombies, and making sure his gun doesn’t get stolen by another survivor. This manga specializes in horror, suspense, and comedy. A strange combination indeed. [ongoing]
These are my three favorite manga of all time. The reasons are simple; each one is unique, each in very different ways. Each of their artworks are easily differentiated and recognizable; just by looking at them, you know where they are from. Moreover, their storylines, types of comedy, and characters in general are all unique.
Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan: (read manga, then watch anime) Horror, suspense, action, and conspiracy. Creatures called titans once appeared 100 years ago out of nowhere and they eat humans. The last of the humans built 50-meter walls to protect from the 15-meter monsters. However, a 60-meter titan appears one day and breaks the first wall. The story revolves Eren Jaeger, a boy who wants to see the world beyond the walls, and becomes a recon/scouting soldier. However, Eren is more special than the ordinary soldier. [ongoing]
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: (read manga only. the anime is not worth it) Jonathan Joestar (JoJo) and Dio Brando are both the sons of a wealthy father, Mr. Joestar. When Dio tries to steal the family fortune from JoJo, JoJo tries to prove how bad Dio really is. However, Dio uses a stone mask and transforms into a vampire. Now Dio seeks more than just the Joestar’s wealth. This story follows Jonathan and all of his descendants as they fight the paranormal. The story is split into parts, with each having different themes ranging from fighting vampires to murder mystery to western. The first parts focus on ripple (hamon) techniques, which are ways to generate the suns rays into attacks (to fight vampires). However, the main ability of the characters quickly changes to stands, which were at first psychic embodiments of the minds, but gradually grew into its own little subsection. My favorite parts are Diamond is Unbreakable (4) and Steel Ball Run (7). [ongoing]
One Piece: (read manga and watch anime. don’t watch anime filler arcs) 20 years ago, pirate Gol D Roger, King of the Pirates, was executed. In his dying words, he talked about his treasure that he gathered over the years, and said it was all in one place. Now you just need to find it. This caused much uproar, and soon, more and more pirate fleets started forming. Monkey D Luffy wants to be pirate king. As he gathers crew members and fights off bad guys, he and his crew cross the grand line, the most dangerous ocean, to find the One Piece, Gol D Roger’s treasure. Luffy himself ate a devil fruit, a fruit that gives the eater a special ability (paramecia-super human, zoan-animal transformations, logia-elemental transformations), but they can never swim again. With brilliant, unique humor and a distinctive art style, One Piece becomes a pleasure to read. [ongoing]
These are the rough sketches for my 2nd portfolio piece. I had the idea of a monster plague doctor, so I just went with it. Hopefully I can show you the final piece in a week or 2.
I’m starting a portfolio and I had to choose a theme, so I picked Horror. I might start posting from the portfolio so expect some creepy shit.
I got some inspiration. Drag the skin to one direction, then another. Drag it till there’s no skin at all, only meat and muscle. Drag you’re skin till you’re a FREAK. This is my creation!
Creepy drawings. I’m trying to get the hang of drawing creepy things…
I don’t know what it is but i still wanted to show it off for some reason
